They secured qualification for the 18-team league phase of the competition for the first time after beating Brann 3-0 at Leigh Sports Village to progress 3-1 on aggregate. Their goals came via a perfect hat-trick from Elisabeth Terland.

‘I said to the players at the end, we’ve got to go in there and not just make up the numbers, we have to go and really be excited by the opportunity to play against Europe’s best teams. If you want to be there, you’ve got to perform against them,’ said United manager Marc Skinner.

Le Tissier and her teammates will now play Lyon (home), Wolfsburg (away), Paris FC (home), Juventus (away), Valerenga (home) and Atletico Madrid (away) in the league phase after the draw was made in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.

United are one of three English clubs in the main stage along with reigning European champions Arsenal and Women’s Super League champions Chelsea.
