Guernsey’s Alex Scott will have to wait for his England debut.

Having earned his first senior call-up for the Three Lions’ final World Cup qualifying games this week, he was left out of their 23-man matchday squad for Thursday night’s match against Serbia at Wembley.

The Bournemouth midfielder could still get his opportunity on Sunday, when England - already confirmed as group winners - travel to Albania to round off qualifying.

While not part of the playing squad at Wembley, Scott watched on from the bench alongside Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden as Thomas Tuchel continued his preparations for next summer’s tournament in North America.

The England head coach started with Declan Rice and Elliott Anderson in the heart of midfield, the latter a player Scott developed a strong bond with on and off the pitch as England U21s triumphed at this summer’s Euros.

The game itself finished 2–0, with Bukayo Saka’s cushioned volley and Eberechi Eze’s glorious first-time strike the difference at a sodden Wembley.

England roll on to Albania with seven wins from seven in this cycle, having scored 20 goals and conceded none. Will Scott get the chance to help them complete a perfect qualifying campaign in three days’ time?
