The Jersey squad had been due to travel on a day return with the airline, its football association confirmed.

It said other travel options were considered, including flying via the UK or travelling by sea, but a solution could not be found for the Ambassadeur Bowl fixture to go ahead as planned.

‘First and foremost, the Jersey FA’s thoughts are with all those staff affected by the demise of Blue Islands. We’ve worked closely with the airline over so many years and we send the staff our best wishes,’ said JFA CEO Tim Pryor.

‘We worked late into the night and through the early hours of this morning to find a suitable travel solution, but without success.

‘It’s really disappointing for the players who had enjoyed an excellent week of preparation at Springfield and would have been looking forward to the challenge of getting a result over at Victoria Park.

‘Our thanks to Guernsey FA for their understanding. We’ll now work with the Inter-Insular Committee on next steps for this match,’ he said.

Other inter-island sports to be affected this weekend include padel and hockey.

The inaugural Junior Inter-Insular Padel was due to take place at Longcamps today while Guernsey’s O35s women’s hockey team had been scheduled to face their Jersey counterparts at Les Quennevais.

It is hoped that match can be rearranged for later in the season.
