The hosts suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the first leg of their last-eight tie on Wednesday night at Old Trafford, but United captain Le Tissier said it is all still to play for when they travel to Germany.
‘It’d be amazing. Of course, it’s all left to play for, 3-2 to them. Anything can happen in football and we’ll make sure that we’re doing our best at Munich and hopefully we get the result there,’ she said.
The United skipper was involved in both of United’s goals on Wednesday night.
Pernille Harder put Bayern in the lead within the first two minutes, but by half-time Le Tissier had pulled one back for United.
Harder restored Bayern’s lead with just 20 minutes to be played, but shortly after Hanna Lundkvist headed in Le Tissier’s corner in front of the Stretford End to bring the scores back level. Momoko Tanikawa scored a late winner with a semi-final spot now Bayern’s to lose.
‘It’s nice to help the team out whenever I can, but I think we could have been a lot better in possession today, so that’s the only thing that’s on my mind,’ said Le Tissier.
Despite the result Le Tissier said that playing in a Champions League quarter-final at Old Trafford was ‘really special’.
‘It was sick. Yeah, of course, we want to play every game at Old Trafford, so to play a quarter-final in the Champions League was really special,’ said Le Tissier.
‘Another exciting game and not a good result to take away, but something that we can build on.’
Marc Skinner’s side have a busy week ahead of them with another huge game at Old Trafford tomorrow – a top-of-the-table Women’s Super League clash against local rivals Manchester City – before they travel to Munich next week for the second leg of the UWCL quarter-final.
‘I’m really excited, obviously, it’s here again. Game after game at the minute, which we’re getting used to, which is really good, and less training and more games, which is really fun for us,’ said Le Tissier.
