The Sarnians will be competing in the 10-nation Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier A and the fixtures have been confirmed with Ollie Nightingale’s side starting their group campaign against Sweden next Saturday before taking on Malta on Sunday, Austria on Tuesday 19 May and Slovenia the following day.
The other group comprises Jersey, Croatia, France, Switzerland and the hosts Cyprus.
The teams who top each group will contest the final on Saturday 23 May.
‘The players and coaching staff have prepared extremely well in the lead-up to the tournament, and there is a genuine sense of excitement and belief within the group,’ said Guernsey men’s team manager Rob Thomson.
‘Representing Guernsey on the international stage is always a huge honour, and everyone involved understands both the responsibility and opportunity that comes with wearing the island badge.
‘This tournament presents another highly competitive challenge, with several strong nations involved, but we are confident in the talent, experience, and character within our squad. The players have shown excellent commitment throughout preparation, and we believe we are travelling to Cyprus in a strong position to compete following impressive performances in the Academy series against Surrey, Hampshire and Essex, and last weekend’s commanding 2-0 T20 International series win against the Isle of Man.’
The one debutant in the squad is talented 17-year-old all-rounder Ed Robinson, but unfortunately exam commitments have ruled out his fellow teenager Harry Johnson, while Charlie Forshaw will join up with his teammates during the tournament due to his exams.
Ben Fitchet has been unable to shake off a shoulder injury sustained during first academy series of the season.
‘Beyond performances on the field, this tour is another important step in the continued development of cricket in Guernsey as we embark on our third consecutive season of tournament cricket,’ Thomson said.
‘The support we receive from our members, sponsors, volunteers, families, and supporters both at home and abroad plays a massive role in helping the team compete internationally, and we are extremely grateful for that continued backing.’
