The Vale Rec head coach admitted that his side are going into tomorrow’s final against the holders St Clement as underdogs, and that just being there is an accomplishment in itself.
‘We obviously had two really good away trips to play Grouville and St Paul’s, so what an achievement for us to even be there. Now we have to go there and give a good account of ourselves, so that’s the next challenge,’ he said.
‘I’m not trying to think about it too much. We know we are massive underdogs and I don’t want to big up our chances, but we know if we won it that would be an unbelievable achievement.’
Vale Rec had success against St Clement in the Upton when they completed a quadruple in the 2023-24 season, and Romeril has been scouting some of their recent games, so he knows what to expect from them tomorrow afternoon.
‘I’ve watched a fair few games of theirs in the last month or so, I don’t think there’s any secrets,’ said Romeril.
‘They’ve got Karl Hinds who scores goals, I think he scored 60-odd goals in Jersey this season – we know what we are up against.
‘They’re going to be very good. They were very close to winning the Jersey League and they’re probably the in-form team in Jersey at the minute.’
Seb Skillen will be away for the final, but there are a few players who have returned to the squad ahead of the game including Luke Gaudion, who has been out for the best part of two years with injury.
The Wheway Cup final kicks off at noon at Grouville tomorrow.
