‘Congratulations to St Clement really, they’re just a very, very good side,’ said Romeril after his side’s 4-1 defeat in Jersey.

‘I think we did as well as we could do in all honesty. You can’t be too disappointed, they were just very good, a couple of levels above us.

‘We just couldn’t really get in control of the game and I think the boys did really well to keep the score to 4-1.’

St Clement scored early on and went in with a 2-0 lead at half-time before scoring twice more in the second half. Tyrese Kelly grabbed a late consolation for Vale.

‘I think they scored after about 15 minutes. We's already said after five, we’re in for a tough afternoon here, because you could see in that five minutes how good they were,’ said Romeril.

‘We knew they were good, but you never quite know until you play them.’

Romeril that there were a few good moments from his side in the defeat.

‘Bertie Beddow had a header which he put straight to the keeper, which I’m not saying would have changed the game, but it would have given us a bit of hope,’ he said.

‘I would say our best player was probably Riley Tyrrell on the day. I thought Riley had a really good game. Jason Martin made some outstanding saves in the game too.

‘I think the achievement was to reach a final, we probably overachieved a little bit to get to that far, I would say, but we didn’t give up.

‘It’s good experience for a young group of players. They got to a Wheway Final and they gave as good an account of themselves as they possibly could.’
