The Guernsey star was up against Serena Tiong from Singapore, with both players having won their opening two Section B matches 2-0.
But Merrien took control from the start, accumulating four shots without reply over the first three ends on her way to taking the opening set 8-4.
Tiong then asked a question of the Sarnian when she took two shots on the opening end of the second set, but Merrien levelled up the score immediately and although the pair were locked at 3-3 after four ends, Merrien pulled clear with a 2-1-2 sequence over the final three ends to take the set 8-3.
That made it three wins from three for the multiple world champion, who faces a double-header today as she is up against Shauna O’Neill from Northern Ireland at 12.45pm before completing her sectional against Tayla Bruce of New Zealand at 8.40pm.
O’Neill beat Bruce on a tiebreak in their clash.
There was an agonising defeat for Ian Merrien and Jason Greenslade in their latest men’s pairs sectional match.
Up against Daniel Salmon and Ross Owen from Wales in the best-of-five-ends two set format, the Sarnians took a tight opening set 4-3 and led the second by the same score with one end remaining.
However, the Welsh pair claimed two shots on that final end to force a tiebreak, which they went on to win, taking the match 3-4, 5-4, 1-0.
That was the first defeat for Merrien and Greenslade, who take on Malta this morning before completing their sectional round-robin tomorrow against Malaysia.
