The all-time queen of the hill dropped a 29.12sec. on her second timed run of Saturday’s sun-kissed Guernsey Kart and Motor Club event.
She had set her previous women’s marker of 29.41 in late August 2022, not only breaking but shattering the 30sec. barrier – which she would then struggle to get under for almost three years.
But after going under 30sec. multiple times over the last 12 months, Rayson is now threatening to break another round-figure barrier in her Empire 00.
‘I’m really happy,’ she said.
‘It’s nice to finally get back down there after a few years of trying to get back.’
Given her unavailability for 31 August’s finale, Rayson also ended her ‘Valdees’ season on a high.
She has credited two of her rivals in the Racing Cars 601 to 1,100cc section for spurring her on.
Firstly, her husband Scott, with whom she shares the same car and has an ongoing bet, where the slower driver buys the fish and chips on the way home.
Both happened to share the same time on Saturday and ended up enjoying a meal paid for by friendly driver Tim Torode.
Secondly, Jackie Le Cheminant, who was the heroine of the ‘National’ with her breakthrough 29.51 run and then had a second sub-30sec. meet on Saturday.
‘Sorry to her for moving the record a bit lower,’ Rayson said.
‘It’s nice that I’ve got people giving me a push.
‘I’ve got Scott in the same car, and then Jackie, she’s pushing me as well – it’s nice to have that. Before, I was kind of in no man’s land.’
The consistent sunny weather has made for fast driving and seen numerous records fall in the two latest climbs.
Although Rayson found the ‘National’ too hot for her car, settling for 29.70 and second woman, Saturday’s climb seemed to strike a happy balance.
‘The weather has got to help.
‘The road seems to be really quite responsive.’
Rayson only went once more after her record run and managed a still-impressive 29.43. She then decided to quit while ahead.
Matt Bougourd set the overall fastest time of the day with a massive personal best of 27.69 in his powerful Force race car.
In fact, history repeated itself for the duo on Saturday, given that Bougourd’s last FTD had happened on the same occasion as Rayson setting her previous record.
The latest event also had Ian Le Messurier, Callum Queripel, and Jersey duo Darryl Morris and Adam Vibert breaking class records in the welcoming conditions.
