The Guernsey star followed up her impressive win over sixth-seed Claire Liu in the first round of qualifying by beating Spaniard Angela Fita Boluda 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (5) in the second round in New York.
The Sarnian will now face fellow Brit Harriet Dart, the 29th seed, who fought back to beat American teenager Kristina Penickova 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 and reach the final round of women’s qualifying.
Watson last played in the main draw at Flushing Meadows in 2021.
