He won the boosted £600 top prize after overcoming Mick Marsh 5-0 in the final, directly following on from 4-0 victories over Macauley Gavey in the ‘semis’ and teenager Rory Gill in the ‘quarters’ at Fosse Andre. He had also beaten Paul Wall 4-0 before that.
The Gremlin (RAFA) Club’s Keith Gallienne had put a healthy sum in so that they could host a summer event, which was ultimately attended by 35 competitors despite not being heavily advertised.
It nearly ended up being an all-Allez final as Jason’s brother, Shaun, found himself 3-1 up and on the brink of a spectacular winning leg against Marsh in their semi.
However, the in-form Marsh produced a dramatic comeback, ultimately edging the contest 4-3.
But the other Allez brother proved a step too far as he continued his clean sweep of leg wins.
Allez had earlier this month made the Guernsey Grand Slam of Darts final and, though he lost to Jersey ace Lewis Bell there, he could take confidence in his run during the tournament.
‘A couple weeks before, I lost in the final of the Grand Slam, so I knew I was in good form,’ he said.
‘Coming into this tournament, I was obviously hoping to do well – but I did not expect to do as well as that.
‘We were hoping it was going to be me against Shaun in the final.’
Through the tournament, there had been a lack of big finishes – though 180s were more common – and a good presence from the younger players.
Allez welcomed the turnout of Parker Green, Leo-Paul Dodd and Archie Wakeham, together with Gill, who knocked out Adam Gontier before losing to the eventual winner.
‘It is great to see young ones coming into darts – they are all going to be ones to watch for sure.’
One of the greatest upsets of the tournament had come from a previous Island player, returning from a break in darts, winning a battle of the de la Mares.
Simon de la Mare had been 2-0 down against Leyton but rallied impressively, winning it 3-2 to knock out one of the tournament’s biggest hopes.
‘It was a good knockout and great turnout too – thanks to the RAF club for hosting,’ Allez added.
The Gremlin Club are now looking to host another tournament with a similar prize fund in the period between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
