Having bowled beautifully to take 2 for 24 from his 10 overs, Ward then steadied the ship after the Reds had lost three early wickets in their run chase to guide them home with a classy 82 not out. The home side won with more than 13 overs to spare having been set 162 for victory.

Earlier, Guernsey had got off to a promising start after being put into bat and reached 92 for 2 at the halfway stage of their innings with Lucas Barker (37) and Matt Stokes (42) well set.

But Jersey had started to tie down the visitors and once the set batters were dismissed, the middle and lower order struggled to inject any momentum against some quality bowling and the Sarnians were bowled out for 161, which was at least 50 short of a truly competitive total.

Guernsey’s last Inter-Insular win came at Port Soif in 2015.
