The Green Lions were beaten 2-1 at Victoria Park on Saturday afternoon. Youngster Dylan Graham put GFC ahead, only for Roffey to equalise just a minute later before scoring a second-half winner that saw them progress to the next round of the FA Vase.
‘Ultimately we’ve got a lot of players out and it’s hard for the players, we still had a good enough team but obviously when you’re going to go up against one of the better teams in our league it was going to be tight,’ said Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance.
‘Obviously they had a lot of possession, we knew they would, we wanted to hit them on the counter and we did with Dylan’s goal, which was a nice goal, but then we committed a real crime and gave away a soft goal when we had got ourselves the right to be in front.
‘I take responsibility for that because it was a sort of a passage of play that I wanted us to try and work on, but the execution wasn’t there.’
One positive Vance took from the defeat was another good performance from the Vale Rec attacker Graham.
‘We haven’t had many positives in the last three weeks in terms of obviously losing all the players that we’ve lost, but he’s been fantastic and it was a great goal.
‘As I’ve said before, I enjoy watching him, he’s exciting and that’s exactly what we want, youngsters like that coming through and showing what they can do,’ he said.
