Even though the Green Lionesses fell two goals behind to hosts Bursledon in the opening quarter-of-an-hour of their Southern Region Women’s Division One South clash on Sunday after a couple of clinical finishes from the home No 9, they did not panic and halved the deficit before the half-time interval then ran riot with nine goals after the turnaround in a 10-2 win.
Their first-half goal came from an excellent team move started by some good work in midfield from captain Candice Bougourd before Codie Le Flem played an incisive through ball for striker Calleigh Hedley to run onto and she calmly slotted home.
GFC still trailed at the interval, but by the hour mark they had turned the game on its head thanks to a five-goal blitz at the start of the second half.
Elise Le Lacheur fired in the equaliser to score her first goal in 18 months having been sidelined through injury for much of last season and she then turned provider, although Hedley still had a lot to do, having received the ball in a crowded penalty, but she skilfully worked an opening and tucked the ball in the bottom corner to give her side the lead.
Le Flem got in on the act with a superb curling effort from outside the area to make it four, Donna Gallienne added the fifth from the edge of the box and from the restart Hedley forced a mistake and set-up substitute Ruby Smith to score the sixth.
The Green Lionesses were able to give Molly Meadowcroft a debut off the bench before they went on to finish with a flourish.
Bougourd knocked in their seventh from the rebound after Scarlett Kenneally had hit the crossbar and then Mollie Watson played arguably the pass of the match to release Amy Dallamore to score.
Smith completed her brace before Le Flem did likewise with the last kick of the match to complete the scoring.
