Maya Le Tissier just missed out on making it back-to-back scoring appearances for England against Greece, but she did provide an assist on Tuesday night.

Starting at right-back once again for the Lionesses in the second leg of their Fifa 2027 Women's World Cup European Qualifiers play-off semi-final at the King Power Stadium in Leicester, the Guernsey star saw a lot of the ball in advanced positions throughout the first half as the home side dominated possession and it was her driving diagonal run and pass after quarter-of-an-hour which set up Lauren James for the second goal in their 5-0 victory (8-1 on aggregate).

James almost returned the favour later in the half, but Le Tissier put her half-volley over the bar from close range. The offside flag went up, but replays showed the Manchester United captain had timed her run perfectly.

Alessia Russo both started and finished the scoring for England, who led 3-1 from the first leg in Crete where Le Tissier scored her first international goal on Friday, with James also netting a brace while Georgia Stanway scored the other.

With victory assured, manager Sarina Wiegman rung the changes and Le Tissier was given a rest after an hour having won her 16th senior cap.

The Lionesses will now face Ukraine in December for a place in next year's World Cup in Brazil.
