He will join fellow 2030 Commonwealth Games hopeful Finn Walsh for the semi-finals in Kettering on Saturday, with the winners of their respective bouts going on to fight for national titles.
This follows Prevel winning through on a 4-1 split decision at last weekend’s quarter-finals, where Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club ally Tyler Quintal also fought well against a tough opponent, but he ended up on the other side of that same scoreline.
Prevel was first up and fought in the under 62.5kg against Gateway ABC’s Harley Gray, who looked a weight division above and a strong, clean, correct puncher.
The Guernseyman boxed using straight punches and using his clever footwork to stay out of the range of his opponents’ strong left hook.
Prevel edged the first round, though close, while in the second Gray had been sent out to spoil him.
Prevel felt the pressure but still managed to make crisp, clean counters.
He got a bit tied up with his opponent in the third and the bout finished with both boys going toe to toe, but the Sarnian ultimately got the nod.
At 65kg, Quintal faced a very strong Jimmy Ellwood from Norfolk’s Attleborough club.
Ellwood was technically correct and threw hard counters, which caught Quintal as he exited from exchanges and also caught the judges’ eyes.
The Sarnian still caught his opponent with the harder shots and boxed his heart out.
Qunital was sent out in the last round and walked on to a couple of shots, receiving a couple of standing counts, but he pushed his opponent all the way and finished the round on top.
The judges ruled in Ellwood’s favour in a contest that could have gone Quintal’s way on a different day.
