The Green Lions travel to face Haywards Heath Town and manager Tony Vance said that it will be a challenge for his side.
‘It’s a game that will sort of show us where we are really, assuming we can compete and turn up – last year we didn’t,’ he said.
‘To turn up and perform, that’s all we want to do really, because if you don’t when you play away at Haywards Heath, who are the obvious big team in the league, then you’ll get found out like we were last year.’
GFC are going into this afternoon’s match with a good run of wins behind them.
‘I’m glad we’re going to them now and not a month ago, with the resource issues that we were dealt with at that time,’ said Vance.
‘We’ve got to turn up and we’re on a fairly decent run, but this is a different proposition altogether. It will be a different game plan, a different scenario.’
The squad is almost at full strength now with only a few key players still missing.
‘Charlton [Gauvain] and Niall [Hainsworth] are not quite there yet and Simon Arnold – those are the three players who are close to coming back, which will almost put us at full strength,’ said Vance.
GFC Women are away at AFC Varsity tomorrow afternoon in the Southern Region Women’s League Division One South.
Sylvans and St Martin’s both host Jersey sides in the Jeremie Cup quarter-finals today at new venues. Sylvans take on Jersey Wanderers at Victoria Park and St Martin’s face St Clement at the KGV 3G. Both of those matches kick off at 12.30pm.
On the grass pitch at the KGV Rangers are due to host North in the Priaulx League at 2pm.
