After the Jersey FA pulled out of the U21 Muratti due to the end of a long term sponsorship deal and the cost and difficulties of inter-island travel, the Ambassadeur Bowl will be used in the new inter-insular competition between Alderney and Guernsey U23 Representative team.
‘I am pleased that the associations were able to agree this annual fixture that not only ensures the Ambassadeur Bowl trophy retains importance for Inter-Insular football, but also creates an exciting new fixture for those players that will be involved,’ said GFA chief executive Gary Roberts.
Alderney FA chairman Tom Chapman said that the new fixture will be a useful game before the Murratti semi-final.
‘Alderney Football Association gratefully accepted the recent invitation to compete for the former Ambassadeur Bowl trophy next February. This new annual competition will be a useful game pre Muratti Semi-Final for our team and one to look forward to with the incentive of potentially winning a trophy,’ he said.
‘We were delighted knowing that the competition will be played on Alderney in alternate years, which will be another fixture to excite our supporters and community.’
The match will take place on Friday 19 February at Victoria Park.
The U21 Muratti was first played in 1988, with Jersey winning 5-2 at Victoria Park in the most recent - and last ever - clash. Guernsey’s last victory came at Footes Lane in 2023 and was the island’s 19th win, to Jersey’s 17.
