GFC hold on to beat Bexhill at Victoria Park

Guernsey FC gave their own manager a Halloween fright, but they escaped with a valuable victory on Saturday at Victoria Park.

Having fought back from conceding an early goal to Bexhill United's Ryan Moir to lead thanks to goals from Sam Murray and Will Fazakerley, the Green Lions had to play the last quarter of the game with 10 men as Jacob Fallaize was shown a red card for a 'professional' foul. In fact, they were temporarily down to nine with Fazakerley in the sin-bin when the centre-back was issued his marching orders.

But with man-of-the-match Seb Sheppard making a couple of outstanding saves to deny Jack Shonk and the home defence coming up with a brave rearguard action, GFC held on to seal a 2-1 win in the clash between seventh and eighth in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

'I know it's Halloween, but that was scary, to be fair. We didn't manage that game very well at all,' said GFC manager Tony Vance.

'I think Bexhill are better than they were last year for sure. I can see why they're second in the form guide and beaten teams, and they had us on the ropes a little bit, so it's probably a great three points to be honest.'
