The Green Lionesses have 10 reasons to smile

It was a job well done by Guernsey FC Women on Sunday as they claimed their first home win of the season in comprehensive fashion.

The Green Lionesses hit double-figures for the second time this campaign as they saw off a weakened Whitchurch United 10-0 at Victoria Park to leave manager Anna Gauvain with a smile on her face.

‘A happy day, and nice to do it at home as well,’ she said.

‘Obviously I feel a bit sorry for Whitchurch, they didn’t have a strong bench like we did, but it was an enjoyable game.

‘We set the girls challenges and I think they ticked every one today and we’ve just got to enjoy today and then get ready for the next one.’

There were hat-tricks for both Calleigh Hedley and Ruby Smith, Amy Dallamore added a brace while Candice Bougourd and Adrienne Leech also got on the scoresheet as the goals were spread evenly over both halves.

Gauvain is pleased to see competition growing within her squad as the bench made a good impact.

‘They’re pushing each other in training as well,’ the manager said.

‘They haven’t always got what they deserved out of games, so they’re really trying hard to do better and conversations this week have been really good and it was a good response after last week.

‘It’s good to see some of the girls get more game time as well today. So, yeah, [the message] was just to stay focused, keep the standards high, and I think they did that.’
