The middle-aged man, who wanted to be only known as Sidney, said he should not be treated as a criminal for smoking marijuana in a bid to 'work, rest and play' like the rest of the population.
He said the 'crippling pain' left him curled up in bed for most of the day and cannabis was the only effective pain relief he had found.
The man, who did not want to discuss his illness in detail, said prescribed pharmaceutical drugs had resulted in numerous side-effects, including damaging his eyesight permanently.
He also wanted to 'dispel the myth' that everyone smoked cannabis to get high.
'There are people in Guernsey with a genuine medical need for cannabis,' he said.
'I'm one where the pharmaceuticals have failed me. The only option left to me is cannabis.
'I can't see the sense in being criminalised for basically using medicine. It is not the high I'm after, it is the medicinal purposes.'
