The effect was felt in both Guernsey and Jersey.
No damage is thought to have been caused in Guernsey.
On 11 July last year the islands were affected by their biggest earthquake in more than 80 years which had a magnitude of 4.2.
Earthquake felt in Channel Islands
AN EARTHQUAKE with a magnitude of 2.9 happened at about 10.55pm yesterday. The epicentre was about 6km-deep and some 44km to the south of Guernsey.
