A NEW jet taxi service connecting Guernsey to other Channel Islands and Europe is set to take off next summer.

Aeris Aviation plans to use a six seater, twin engine Eclipse jet to fly between Guernsey, Jersey, Alderney and European destinations. Its pilots landed the aircraft at Alderney Airport on Tuesday as part of the company's trial to find out if the scheme will work.

Aeris Aviation is owned by Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickinson. Last weekend the jet carried footballers John Terry and Ashley Cole to the UK for David Beckham's Unicef charity match.

The service would not compete with Aurigny. The aircraft costs £2,500 per flying hour to operate and the cost of any trip is calculated on flying time.
