A motion of no confidence has been submitted against Sark’s Policy & Finance Committee, including by one of its own members.

A letter signed by eight of the island’s 18 members of Chief Pleas was handed to speaker Paul Armorgie yesterday afternoon and it is due to be on the agenda at the Easter meeting on Wednesday 30 April.

P&F member Chris Kennedy-Barnard said it was not just one issue that led to people signing the letter.

‘Things need to be done differently. Part of this is economics, part of it is communication. Things need to change and improve and we need a fresh approach.’

Fellow signatory Steve Lord said it had not been difficult to get eight Chief Pleas members to sign.

‘We could probably have got 10, but we decided it would probably be best for everybody if we got it in as it was,’ he said.

Each signatory had their own reasons for signing.

‘There’s a lot of different issues relating to different aspects of governance and things that have gone on. Everyone has got their own thing.’

The other signatories of the motion of no confidence letter are Conseillers Marcus Barker, Scott Sullivan, Jimmy Martin, Ben Harris, Mary Nicolle and Frank Makepeace.
