Amber Lickley, who has nominated him for the RefCo-sponsored Welcome of the Year Award, said her friend sang the virtues of the islands at every opportunity.

'For as long as I've known David, he has always worked for companies involving tourists visiting Guernsey,' she said.

The two have known each other for about four years and they previously worked together at Value Rent A Car, which has a licence agreement with Avis Rent A Car.

'David trained the staff there to the highest standard to ensure that customer service and warm welcomes were the best we could offer,' said Ms Lickley.

'There were many customers who came back year on year who were always happy to see David on their travels.'

Mr Willcocks' recent jobs have included doing bus tours for cruise liner passengers and driving the new Le Petit Train, which entered service in St Peter Port on 18 May.

'David is a real character who has nothing but praise for our little islands,' said Ms Lickley.

'He truly deserves to be recognised for all of his hard work.'
