Pride of Guernsey - 'taking the strain off emergency services personnel'
CIVIL PROTECTION VOLUNTEERS play a vital role in supporting the work of the emergency services and have been nominated by Guernsey Police for their assistance.
In making the nomination for the Rossborough-sponsored Emergency Hero of the Year Award, a spokesman said the volunteers – their number is capped at 35 – were an important part of how the force responded to a variety of incidents.
'We regularly call on, and receive, their help for a wide range of matters including major incidents, severe weather, missing person searches and events that require policing.
'Civil Protection Volunteers take the strain off emergency services personnel and allow staff to focus on where they are needed most.
'We are grateful for their continued support and believe they should receive much-deserved recognition for their efforts.'
So far this year, the volunteers have provided some 900 hours of work.
