Maggie Sanders has nominated her former Notre Dame du Rosaire Primary School pupil for the College of Further Education-sponsored award.

Anthony, 10, was born with a condition which means his legs and hips are not aligned properly

He is currently in Florida after undergoing corrective surgery to extend his left leg in an operation paid for by well-wishers.

Mrs Sanders said he was an absolute delight to have in the classroom.

'Despite his disability, he joined in with every physical activity that we did, never complaining and just getting on with it.

'He was a true inspiration then and continues to be so even more,' she said.

She said that Anthony will have to go through months of gruelling physiotherapy and it was hard to imagine what he has been through.

'I know that everyone at Notre Dame got behind Anthony to help raise funds for his surgery. They did this because he is such a lovely little boy. I can think of no-one more deserving than Anthony to be given this Overcoming Adversity Award.

'What a homecoming present that would be for him,' she said.
