Mr Wyeth, a Year 3 teacher, has been nominated for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year Award by pupil Erin Bailey and her mother, Charlotte Froome, who outline the difference he has made.
Charlotte said Mr Wyeth had completely altered Erin's attitude to learning and improved her confidence.
'He is really supportive of her and has gone above and beyond,' she said.
'I used to ask her how her day was after school, but now she comes running out to tell me the funny story he told the class, what happened today, or just how brilliant her day was.
