Kay Bull, 59, was put forward for the Christies Group-sponsored award by her daughter Samantha.

Over Christmas, Kay's mother kept falling over and needed hospital care.

Kay would spend time with her in hospital while working and even at the end of the day, she would go to her mother's house to make sure it was tidy and clean.

'My wonderful mum did this for two months, and when my gran was discharged home, mum would go to my gran at 7am to make her a cup of tea, tidy up and make sure gran was fine until care staff arrived,' Samantha said.

'She then used to visit my gran during her lunch break and then she would go down after work to get gran her tea.

'When my mum finally got home she spent time with her three-year-old granddaughter before returning to my gran to put her to bed and ensure she was ready for the next day.'

Samantha said throughout all of this, her mum did not moan or complain and just wanted what was best.

'I very much admire my wonderful, caring mum for all the work she did during this terrible time.

'But she would not give up, and now my gran lives independently at home and my mum takes her shopping every Saturday, followed by a coffee and cake.

'To me my mum is the best and would never admit anything was wrong, she would just carry on and take it in her stride.'
