The Guernsey Young Ambassadors of 2015 are a group of seven school students who represented the island on a special visit to Biberach.

They were nominated by Chris Betley, Honorary Consul for the Federal Republic of Germany, for the Butterfield-sponsored award.

The students were selected by interview from more than 20 nominations made by senior staff of the local schools.

They were nominated for the contribution they made to their school community and selected to represent the island to young people in the Biberach community.

'The students collaborated brilliantly in meetings and subsequently from home using modern media to create a PowerPoint presentation about Guernsey and prepared notes and information to answer questions from the German students,' he said.

'The Young Ambassadors visited three schools in Biberach and gave their presentation to a total of 10 classes of German students. It was exhausting but a very worthwhile effort that day.

'Then on a cold market day in the town, the Young Ambassadors set up a stall and handed out tourist material to local shoppers, answering questions about Guernsey in English and in German.'

Mr Betley said that in excess of 100 visitors from Biberach travelled to Guernsey in 2015 and the popularity of the island as a tourist destination was evident from the interest shown during the ambassadors' visit.

'Their efforts were very well received.

'The levels of energy and dynamism in this group were a huge credit to the students involved, their schools and parents, and reflected the strength of the bonds of friendship between the island and the community of Biberach.'
