Pride of Guernsey: 'The bravest woman I have met'
RISKING her life and being 'the bravest woman I have ever met' earned Laura Furby a nomination for the Rossborough-sponsored Emergency Hero of the Year award.
Nominated by her daughter, Niamh Garnham, she 'has been held hostage and still managed to get a woman out of the building without being harmed. Then after that she came home and continued her motherly duties.
'This woman is the bravest woman I have ever met, she is also my mother. Every day she goes to work I do not know what will happen to her, but I do know that she is going to protect this island any way she can. My mum has gone with a car half-way over a cliff just to talk a woman out of going over the edge. She did not know if she was going to come home, but she did.
'She is one of the most respected police officers in that station and I am proud to call her my mum.'
