Herm students perform summer concert

It WOULDN'T be July without the tears and laughter of the Herm School summer concert.

The theme this year followed on from the pupils' studies on the work of Victor Hugo, namely Toilers of the Sea. In fact, representatives from the Victor Hugo Festival made the trip over to support the children and had formerly presented the school with the huge octopus that played an important role in the concert.

The actual title of the concert was 'Toilers of the Sea, The Musical, Herm School-style'.

Many of the songs were from Les Miserables but they also managed to squeeze in a bit of Abba, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton and even a couple of numbers from the films Frozen and Oliver.

As always, the children displayed a vivid flair for the dramatic and impeccable comic timing, all under the excellent directorship of teacher Mary Carey.

Highlights of the day were Ethan Dyer's dancing sea monster, Harry Moore and Oscar Nicholls as evil singing villains and Emy Hastings as Gilliat's mother, coming out in a witch's cloak, hat and pointy nose announcing, 'I don't know why everyone thought I was a witch'.
