Pride of Guernsey: 'Dedicated and passionate'
TWO women who run education classes for adults with learning disabilities have been nominated for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year award.
The classes meet every Monday at the College of Further Education Delancey campus and their nominator said Gill Le Page and Denise Cohu have run these classes for a combined total of 28 years.
'Gill and Denise are both teachers running adult education classes and they have been doing so since 2001 and 2003,' they said.
'They work on a one-to-one basis with students when necessary and have organised a variety of interesting and informative off-site visits to many venues.'
Their dedication and passion for their work meant they were popular with the students and allowed them to get the most out of the lessons.
'Gill and Denise's selfless dedication to their students is exemplary and the enthusiasm the students have for their classes and for Gill and Denise personally is a joy to behold,' they said.
The nominator also praised the creativity of their teaching methods and how they went out of their way to organise social events all year round.
'They are held in very high regard and loved by their students for their innovative teaching skills, their sense of fun and their dedication to each individual,' they said.
