Pride of Guernsey: 'Heartfelt engagement with job'
A PARENT of one of Sarah Buck's many pupils has praised her for the care she has shown towards her autistic daughter, which, as a result, has allowed her to thrive and participate in the same educational opportunities as her classmates.
Mrs Buck, a teacher at Les Beaucamps High, was nominated by Chantal Gauvain for the Garenne-sponsored Teacher of the Year award after witnessing her commitment to making her daughter Emilie's time at the school as fulfilling as possible.
She said her daughter had struggled with communication and social integration, but with Mrs Buck's help and ongoing support Emilie was able to overcome this and actively participate in a school trip to France.
'Mrs Buck went along one on one with her, which meant the world to me as a mother.'
Mrs Buck was commended further for her heartfelt engagement with her job and her pupils and her efforts were described by Ms Gauvain as 'priceless'.
