Calvin Goddard, 29, pictured, head-butted and punched the glass within the custody area, tried to open the locked door, was verbally abusive towards Judge Graeme McKerrell and made direct threats to kill him after a bail application was refused.
'As far as I'm concerned, in 30 years of appearing in courts on a day-to-day basis, this was the most violent outburst I have ever seen,' said the judge.
The incident happened in the Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning, but Goddard could not be brought back before the court later that day as the States Pprison raised safety concerns.
He appeared instead yesterday by video link, remaining calm.
