Voting begins in Vale by-election
A STEADY flow of Vale parishioners have been voting in the district's by-election this morning.
Returning officer Colin Bond said 71 people had attending the polling stations, at Vale Douzaine Room and Rue Maingy, in the first hour.
A further 101 turned out in the second hour and that flow was expected to continue.
'We've had a steady flow of people and it is picking up a bit now,' Mr Bond said.
'There were certainly fewer people waiting at the doors at 8am than in the general election but that doesn't mean to say that it will be a lower turnout.'
Among those voting at Vale Douzaine Room this morning was Brian Hamel, 75.
He wanted the States to sort out the waste strategy and the shortage of nurses at the hospital.
Parishioner Andrew Kewell believed it was important for people to vote.
'You can't moan if you don't take part in the process,' he said.
Margaret Brehaut, 75, was one of the fewer people attending the Rue Maingy polling station. 'I always vote because I think it's very important to have a say,' she said.
The candidates in the by-election are: Garry Collins, Simon De La Mare, Neil Inder and Rick Lowe.
Both polling stations are open until 8pm.
