ISLANDERS are being encouraged to give back to their community by joining the Lions Club of Guernsey.

The group organises a number of big events every year, including the Donkey Derby and the Swimarathon.

But president Mike Johns said membership numbers had been dipping recently and there were now fewer than 30 members.

'It is natural for people to move on to other things,' he said.

'We want it to be easy for people to come in and contribute and, if they want to, move on. It brings in fresh ideas.'

The main aims of the club are to raise money and then give it away to good causes.
