The lifeboat currently moors in The Pool, but that will change from next month.
Lifeboat operations manager Captain Peter Gill said the change had been planned for a while and would make a big difference to the crew.
Currently they have to get in a dinghy to get out to the vessel.
'This will save time and it will also keep the engines warm,' he said.
