The Army fired the gun from Castle Cornet up to 1923, when it stopped on grounds of cost. The States revived the tradition in 1975 and it has been fired daily throughout the summer ever since.
Cannon Asset Management has been sponsoring the ammunition and uniforms for the gunners for more than 20 years.
'Seven months of firing, plus a Royal Salute and spares to cover any duds, is not an insignificant cost,' said head of heritage services Dr Jason Monaghan.
A representative from the sponsor is traditionally at the first firing of the year and it was third time lucky for director Arthur Evans this time around.
'I've managed to palm it off to others for the last two years, as I don't think directors should take all the limelight, and it would be something nice for other members of staff to do,' he said.
'We have relatively new owners now who want us to continue this and it's something for the community, so long may it continue.'
Castle Cornet opened on limited hours on 17 February and it will now be open from 10am to 5pm seven days a week until 29 October.
