Saturday a grand day out at the Last Post

JOCKEYS and even a toy horse were at the Last Post on Saturday, as people crowded in to watch the Grand National 2017.

For the fifth year real turf was also placed in the public bar, adding an extra dimension to the family fun day.

Eyes were glued to the televisions as those in the pub watched One For Arthur, ridden by Derek Fox and trained by Lucinda Russell, win the event at Aintree.

Tenant and licensee Geordie Slane was dressed in green and white silks – the colours worn on horse Jonnie Skull – which Mr Slane previously jointly owned.

There is a photo of the horse in the pub and Mr Slane said it was now retired.

Mr Slane said this was the fifth year he had brought the grass in the pub for the event and it added to the day.
