Amballes plans worry long-term neighbours

CONCERNS have been raised by people living in Les Amballes, St Peter Port, after it was revealed a plot of open land behind the terraced houses is earmarked for a new clos of four houses.

Ian Le Page, who has lived in Les Amballes for more than 40 years, says that the entrance to the site where four houses are planned is
narrower than the 2.8 metres claimed in the planning application. (Picture by Steve Sarre, 19355418)

The area is 2,829sq. m, or 0.7 acres, and the planning application would see the existing house and workshop demolished to make way for the four new, three-storey homes.

Ian and Angela Le Page have lived at 1, Kingston Terrace, which backs onto the land, for nearly 40 years, and have raised a number of concerns about the potential development.

Traffic could become a ‘big safety issue’, they said. The couple also disputed the width of the entrance to the site, which the application said was 2.8m, but they said was actually 2.35m at most.

‘You can see on the wall where it has been damaged by cars in the past and we are also worried the construction vehicles will end up all having to park out the front and cause more congestion,’ Mr Le Page said.

Dan Taylor, the planning applicant and property owner, lives in an adjacent house.

He said the traffic wouldn’t increase.
