Planners happy that buildings will not spoil Rouge Rue view

CUTTING the height of three proposed homes by more than two metres has alleviated planners’ concerns about a new development blocking an ‘iconic view’ of the Little Russel.

Scaffolding was set up on the Rouge Rue, St Peter Port, site to show the height of the proposed properties set out in the original application as above. After those plans were rejected by planners, new plans with a reduced height for three of the homes were passed. (Picture by Adrian Miller, 19418155)

The original application for six homes on the site on the corner of Rouge Rue was rejected last year on the grounds it would spoil an important public view.

But after two revisions the planners have now approved redevelopment plans for the site of a house called Frimley.

‘The reduction in the height of the three dwellings on the existing garage site by 2.5m has overcome the significant concerns of the representations, in respect to the loss of important views of St John’s Church, the Little Russel and adjoining islands,’ the planners said in their report.

‘The retention of these views as observed from publicly accessible streets and paths retains the character of the existing public realm and the design of the buildings and use of proposed materials are suitable in this locality.’
