Control centre set for another overspend

STAFFING pressures and the transition to a ‘more robust operating model’ means the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre is expected to overspend its budget again this year.

An internal audit has been carried out to track the progress of the centre’s improvement plan, which was implemented in January in response to a £159,000 overspend in 2016.

That overspend is set to continue into this year, the Home Affairs has revealed, primarily due to higher-than-budgeted staff costs.

The improvement plan identified staffing, budgeting and IT as the main ‘operational difficulties’ that needed to be addressed.

Home Affairs president Mary Lowe welcomed the findings of the audit, which she said allowed the committee to better understand the progress made to date.
