Road closures bring traffic into Town grinding to a halt

TRAFFIC ‘carnage’ descended on the island yesterday as road closures began to affect two major routes into Town.

The first day of Vale Road being closed for 12 weeks, combined with Le Val des Terres shut for one month and Amherst also closed has seen some roads in the island gridlocked with traffic. (Picture by Steve Sarre, 19710455)

Both Vale Road and Le Val des Terres are now closed for three months and one month respectively.

It appeared that the motorists most affected by the roadworks were those who were travelling through Delancey Lane in the Vale, with reported tailbacks to the Saltpans.

Traffic and Highway Services said the congestion along the lane was caused by a number of drivers ‘failing to follow alternative diversion routes’, such as Braye Road and the Coutanchez.

It advised those drivers who sought to bypass Vale Road through the Delancey road network not to use the route.
