Home acting on Ofsted report criticising children’s service

A FAMILY Proceedings Advisory Service manager will be appointed as soon as possible, the Home Affairs president said after an independent Ofsted report criticised a lack of leadership in the body.

The report, commissioned by the committee, made seven recommendations for improvement to the service, which represents the interests of children and young people in public and private legal proceedings.

One of its findings was that a manager needs to be appointed ‘promptly’ so that pressure would be moved away from the frontline staff. The post was lost in April and funding used for another role.

Home Affairs president Mary Lowe said she recognised appointing a manager was key.
