The Love Food Hate Waste campaign seeks to help households cut down on things that could be eaten but end up in the bin, and says that people could be saving around £600 a year.

Local households throw away more than 4,000 tonnes per year.

It is estimated this waste costs households around £16m in total.

A new calendar has been produced to advertise the campaign, to try to help islanders ‘begin the New Year on the right footing’.

The calendars, which are now available for free at supermarkets, include practical steps to help reducing food waste. They also have 12 recipes that make use of store cupboard ingredients, and a recipe in celebration of the new Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society film.
