Wrecked cruiser and boat from Bordeaux washed up in France

WRECKAGE from the luxury motor yacht that sank on its way from Jersey to Guernsey in November last year has washed up near Portbail on the Normandy coast.

The 62ft yacht, P6T2, struck the Ruaudiere Buoy, in the centre of St Aubin’s Bay, at about 26 knots and sank within minutes.

It happened just hours after the RNLI removed the all-weather lifeboat from Jersey because of a continuing disagreement with the former crew.

The find came the day after a pleasure vessel from Guernsey washed up on a beach in Surtainville, 10 miles north of Portbail.

That boat, named Lazy B, lifted its mooring at Bordeaux Harbour and drifted 30 miles to the French coast.

Assistant harbour master Jerome Davis said it would have been recovered before it reached the Cherbourg peninsula had weather conditions been more favourable.

The moorings were described by Mr Davis as in good condition.

‘Advice would be to inspect your boat and mooring regularly, paying particular notice to the condition of the ropes and/or chains.

‘In periods of poor weather, it is advisable to put out additional mooring ropes,’ he said.
