Ernie’s (Im)mature Cheddar is best selling local cheese

SALES of Ernie’s (Im)mature Cheddar – the profits of which go to the charity in memory of Guernsey boy Ernie Backlund-Leale – have outstripped all other local cheeses since its launch.

The Guernsey Dairy announced in December that it would hand over all the profits from the sale of the ‘world class’ cheese to Ernie’s Angels. The charity was set up following Ernie’s lost battle with leukaemia in September last year.

The mature cheddar which had a limited run of 2,940 pieces was initially earmarked to be entered into the World Cheese Show.

There are now just 580 pieces left on sale around the island.
