Concerns have been raised over access being lost to another bay after a sign was put up at Marble Bay in St Martin’s.
Islanders have been unable to access Divette Bay, also in St Martin’s, and Soldiers Bay in St Peter Port from the paths for several years.
A spokesman for Agriculture, Countryside & Land Management Services said access to Marble Bay would be repaired as soon as possible.
However, repair work at Divette Bay and Soldiers Bay was not going to take place any time soon.
‘Soldiers Bay has been closed to the public for several years due to a number of rock falls in the area of the bay and the footpath leading to it,’ they said.
‘The damaged areas are unlikely to be repaired in the foreseeable future due to the high cost.
‘The access to Divette is closed due to undermining of the soft cliff below the footpath leading to the bay.’
The spokesman said that there were concerns that sections of the soft cliff on the inland side of the path were being affected by heavy rainfall.
‘There are no proposals for repair at the moment due to other priority works but, again, the cost of stabilising both soft cliffs is likely to be significant.’
They said the damage caused to Marble Bay was caused by tidal erosion and storm damage.
Members of staff and the public reported damage around the access to bays to the team.
Agriculture, Countryside & Land Management Services then respond to the repair according to the individual site.
As ease of access and stability of the surrounding land and cliffs are important, the spokesman said the cost of repairs had to be considered according to the priority within budgets for remote sites.
