The Princess Royal and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence visited Sark as part of the island’s 80th Liberation Day celebrations on May 10.
The chosen photograph shows the couple riding in a horse-drawn carriage and smiling as they travelled across the island towards La Coupee.
Seigneur Christopher Beaumont said he was delighted at the extra profile for the island.
‘What’s lovely is that is says underneath that it was taken in Sark,’ he said. ‘So everyone who receives it across the world will hear of our island. It was clear during her visit how much she enjoyed seeing the island. She was taking a lot of photos herself with her phone, it would be lovely to think they were being shared in a family WhatsApp group.’
The Princess spent several hours on the island, including lunch at the La Seigneurie.
‘She has been to Sark a few times before but I think this is the first time she or any royal figure has set foot on Little Sark itself,’ he said.
‘She is very down to earth, very charming and easy to talk to, and she clearly enjoyed her visit as she chose that photo.’
The picture was taken by experienced Royal photographer Aaron Chown, who, along with local photographer Chris George, was allowed access throughout Princess Anne’s visit to the Bailiwick.
Mr George took a very similar photo just moments later with the Princess Royal smiling as she chatted to the Seigneur.
‘Aaron got the better image, so hats off to him for capturing that moment – it’s a lovely photo and I wish I’d taken it,’ he said.
Mr George has photographed every royal visit since 1989, including Princess Anne three times.
‘We had been warned by the representatives at Clarence House that she did not like being photographed,’ he said.
‘But I have always found her and her husband very pleasant and understanding.
‘You are perpetually on the move and have to learn to shoot while walking backwards which can be perilous. I must have taken 3,000 images on that day but Aaron has managed to get the money shot.’
